RSF Spain Fellowships 2025 Open

Are you a Spanish-speaking journalist at risk seeking academic shelter, professional growth, and a safe space to continue your mission? Reporters Without Borders (RSF) Spain, in collaboration with Spanish universities and media institutions, has officially opened applications for its prestigious RSF Spain Fellowships for the 2025–2026 academic year. This opportunity offers two fully-supported fellowships designed to empower journalists facing threats or exile, helping them sharpen their skills and share their experiences.

Fellowship #1: UMH-Elche #EspacioSeguroRSF for Press Freedom

In its third edition, this fellowship offers a three-month academic residency at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) for one Latin American journalist at risk. The selected fellow will become an honorary lecturer in the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities and engage with the academic community from 15 September to 15 December 2025.

What’s Expected from Applicants:

  • A detailed explanation of your professional career and journalistic background.
  • A personal statement explaining why you’re a good match for the program and how it will benefit you.
  • A proposal for three 60-minute journalism workshops for university students based on your experiences, research, or reporting topics.

Fellowship #2: Alicia Gómez Montano Scholarship for Persecuted and Exiled Journalists

Now in its second edition, this postgraduate training scholarship is offered in partnership with RTVE (Spain’s national broadcaster) and the University of Alcalá de Henares. It provides comprehensive support for one full academic year, from September 2025 to June 2026, at RTVE Instituto.

Fellowship Benefits Include:

  • Return airfare to Madrid, if necessary
  • Shared accommodation in Alcalá de Henares
  • A monthly stipend of €600
  • Health insurance (if required).

Who Can Apply:

  • Spanish-speaking journalists who have been persecuted or are in exile.
  • Applications must include a cover letter, CV, and a brief explanation of any threats or persecution experienced.
