Hardie Fellowship Program 2025 Open

Tasmania’s most prestigious international study award for educators—the Hardie Fellowship Program 2025-2026—is now open for applications. This exceptional opportunity invites passionate, high-performing teachers employed under the Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) to pursue advanced studies or short-term academic research at top-tier universities in the United States in 2026.

Funded by the Hardie Fellowship Trust, the program honors the legacy of Professor Charles Dunn Hardie—an academic giant and education visionary whose groundbreaking contributions to educational theory and thought gained global recognition, including acknowledgment from Albert Einstein himself.

What Does the Fellowship Offer?

Hardie Fellowships provide a fully funded academic adventure to the U.S., covering:

  • Full salary during the study leave period
  • University study/course fees for postgraduate or short-term research programs
  • Return international and domestic flights
  • Daily living allowances (meals, accommodation, incidentals)
  • Travel insurance under the Tasmanian Government’s policy

Fellows may also participate in U.S. school visits, collaborate with local educators, or attend university-organized conferences—offering a rare chance to immerse themselves in leading educational practices abroad.

  • Be Australian citizens
  • Be permanent DECYP employees under the Teaching Service (Tasmanian Public Sector) Award

Applications are welcome from both individuals and groups who can clearly demonstrate how their proposed study aligns with the strategic educational goals of DECYP, including:

  • Lifting Literacy
  • Participation and Empowerment
  • Attainment and Retention

A detailed study plan that clearly connects with one or more of these focus areas is essential.
