EUREKA International Call for Disaster Resilience, Response, and Recovery R&D Projects
Foreign students, innovators, and researchers with a passion for developing life-saving technologies now have a golden opportunity to collaborate internationally. From 10 June 2025 to 31 October 2025, ministries and funding agencies in Austria, Belgium (Flanders), Brazil, Chile, Lithuania, Spain, and Türkiye are inviting proposals for groundbreaking research and development (R&D) projects focused on disaster resilience, response, and recovery.
Funding Focus and Areas of Research
The call supports international collaborations that aim to develop products, processes, or services for commercialisation within 24 months of project completion. Projects must address at least one type of disaster—whether human-caused (such as conflict, industrial accidents, or urban fires) or natural (such as earthquakes, floods, storms, wildfires, or volcanic activity).
Eligible research areas include:
- Innovative and resilient construction (e.g., seismic isolation technologies, advanced fire- and flood-resistant materials)
- Digital technologies (e.g., AI-driven early warning systems, advanced geospatial analysis)
- Search and rescue (e.g., intelligent drone systems, portable imaging equipment)
- Resilient communications (e.g., portable devices, alternative energy sources)
- Health solutions (e.g., mobile medical devices, resilient health infrastructure)
- Post-disaster waste management (e.g., safe demolition, circular economy reuse of debris)
Relevant industry sectors include materials, construction, health, water, energy, ICT, electronics, software, and agrifood.
Funding Scale and Project Size
Projects are generally expected to range from €500,000 to €5 million, with no single country or organisation contributing more than 70% of the budget.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify:
- Projects must involve at least two independent organisations from two different participating Eureka countries.
- They must be civilian in purpose, target commercialisation, and last no more than 36 months.
- A company partner must be part of the consortium.
- All partners must benefit and actively participate in the project.
- Projects must clearly address a disaster-related application.
Applicants should also check with their national funding body for any country-specific rules before applying.
Application Dates
The call for disaster resilience, response, and recovery R&D projects will officially open on 10 June 2025 and remain open for submissions until 31 October 2025 at 5:00 PM CEST. Following the evaluation and selection process, successful projects are expected to begin in May 2026.
