Vienna Center for Advanced Studies Fellowship 2026 Open

The University of Vienna has announced two prestigious fellowship opportunities under its newly established Vienna Center for Advanced Studies (ViCAS). These fully funded one-year research fellowships—open to both senior scholars and early-career researchers—will run from 1 October 2026 to 30 June 2027, offering a unique chance to conduct in-depth, interdisciplinary research in one of Europe’s most culturally vibrant cities.

About ViCAS

Launched by the University of Vienna, ViCAS is designed to foster groundbreaking research that bridges academic disciplines, nations, and intellectual traditions. The center provides an inspiring environment for scholars to work without distraction, encouraging collaboration and dialogue across fields.

Each year, ViCAS awards up to ten Senior Fellowships and multiple Early Career Fellowships to international academics from all disciplines. Research proposals that are curiosity-driven and cross disciplinary boundaries are especially encouraged.


ViCAS Senior Fellowship Programme

Duration: 1 October 2026 – 30 June 2027
Eligibility:

  • Professorial or equivalent senior academic rank
  • Open to established international scholars in all fields
  • Must demonstrate commitment to interdisciplinary engagement

Funding Package:

  • € 7,000 monthly stipend
  • € 1,500 monthly accommodation allowance.

ViCAS Early-Career Fellowship Programme

Duration: 1 October 2026 – 30 June 2027
Eligibility:

  • PhD awarded within the last 8 years
  • Open to researchers from all academic disciplines
  • Emphasis on interdisciplinary, curiosity-driven research

Funding Package:

  • € 5,500 monthly stipend
  • € 1,500 monthly accommodation allowance
