Scholarships in 2026

Apply for German DAAD EPOS Scholarships 2026 Available for Young Professionals

Are you a young professional from a developing country with a passion for environmental governance? An exceptional opportunity awaits to advance your career and make a tangible impact on a global scale. The MSc Environmental Governance (MEG) program, hosted by the University of Freiburg, is offering a limited number of highly coveted DAAD/EPOS scholarships for the winter semester of 2026/27.

This scholarship, a collaboration between the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the MEG program, is specifically designed to empower young professionals and future leaders. It provides a unique pathway for individuals from developing countries (DAC list) to gain a world-class education in a field crucial to our shared future.

Who Should Apply?

This is a highly competitive and demanding opportunity. Applicants must meet a strict set of criteria to be considered for both the scholarship and the MEG program. Ideal candidates will be:

  • Young Professionals: With a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience gained after earning their Bachelor’s degree. Please note that internships, voluntary work, and most academic positions (teaching and research at a university) are not considered relevant experience for this scholarship.
  • Academically Strong: Possessing an academic degree earned within the last six years, with a grade that places them in the upper third of their class.
  • Globally Minded: Coming from a DAC country and having not resided in Germany for more than 15 months prior to the application deadline.
  • Focused: Applicants who already hold a master’s degree must provide a strong, well-reasoned justification for seeking another postgraduate degree.

How to Apply: A Step-by-Step Guide

The application process for the DAAD/EPOS scholarship is linked to the MEG program application and operates on a condensed timeline. To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must adhere to the following schedule:

  • Application Window: The online application portal opens now and will closes on October 15, 2025.
  • Online Eligibility Assessment (OEA): If you are unsure whether you meet the stringent requirements, the program strongly recommends completing the Online Eligibility Assessment (OEA) by October 1, 2025. You will receive an email within one week confirming your eligibility to apply for both the program and the scholarship.
  • Document Submission: All required application documents must be combined into a single PDF file and uploaded through the online application form. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • Reference Letters: Crucially, reference letters must be sent directly by the referees to [email protected], not by the applicant.
  • Application Portal: https://www.meg.uni-freiburg.de/admissions/Scholarships/daad%20scholarship

Important Note: The DAAD-EPOS scholarship application is due one year ahead of the study start. The current application window is for studies beginning in October 2026. If you do not meet the scholarship requirements, you may still be eligible to apply as a regular applicant, with an application deadline of May 15, 2026.

This scholarship represents a unique opportunity to join a community of global leaders dedicated to shaping a sustainable future. If you possess the drive, qualifications, and commitment to environmental governance, we encourage you to apply and take the next step in your professional journey.
