EPFL Switzerland Summer Research Program 2025 Inviting Applications

The EPFL Life Sciences Summer Research Program 2025 in Switzerland is now open for applications, offering a fully funded research opportunity for undergraduate and master’s students worldwide. Hosted by EPFL University, this prestigious two-month program will run from July 7th to August 28th, 2025. It’s an exceptional chance for students in life sciences-related fields to gain hands-on laboratory experience under the mentorship of leading experts, all while exploring the beautiful Swiss landscape.

This program provides a platform for students to engage in intensive research projects in biology, biophysics, bioinformatics, chemistry, bioengineering, quantitative biology, and related fields. Participants will not only gain practical lab skills but also attend scientific seminars and workshops aimed at personal and academic development. The program concludes with a symposium where students present their research through posters or talks, highlighting their achievements.

For the 2025 session, EPFL aims to select 20-25 students who meet the eligibility criteria. This program is open to students who have completed at least two years of undergraduate study or the first year of a master’s program. Recent graduates within a year of completing their bachelor’s degree and actively pursuing a master’s degree in a life sciences-related field are also encouraged to apply. Applicants must demonstrate a strong foundation in life science subjects like cell biology and biotechnology, though prior lab experience is an added advantage. Notably, IELTS is not required for this program, and there are no application fees.

Participants will enjoy several benefits, including a stipend of CHF 3,600 for the two months, free accommodation, and coverage of international travel expenses. Beyond the research work, students will have opportunities to engage in vibrant social activities, including a scenic day hike in the Swiss Alps with traditional raclette and BBQs.

The application process is straightforward and conducted online. Interested applicants must submit the following documents: a CV (1-2 pages), a motivation letter (maximum 750 words), an explanation of their top three lab choices, university transcripts or a list of classes and grades, and 2 letters of recommendation. Applications close on January 31, 2025, so early preparation is encouraged.

This program also encourages students from diverse backgrounds to apply. Those who are not specifically in life sciences can explore other EPFL summer programs such as the EPFL Excellence Research Internship and the EPFL Summer Internship.
