Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin Internship 2025

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) has opened applications for its International Summer Student Programme (ISSP) 2025, offering undergraduate students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in cutting-edge scientific research. The programme will run from July 7 to August 29, 2025, in Berlin, Germany, and is designed for students passionate about advancing their knowledge in fields such as Photon Science, Photovoltaics, Quantum Materials, and more.

Participants will engage in research projects alongside HZB scientists at its campuses in Berlin-Wannsee and Berlin-Adlershof. The programme is complemented by a series of enriching activities, including visits to premier research facilities like the BESSY II synchrotron radiation source, excursions to institutions in Berlin, workshops on science communication, and a concluding scientific poster presentation.

The ISSP provides a comprehensive funding package to support participants. Selected students from outside Berlin will receive a gross subsistence allowance of €1,900, while students from Berlin or Potsdam universities will receive €1,000. Additionally, 75% of travel costs are reimbursed up to €200 for EU students and €800 for non-EU students, easing the financial burden of travel to Berlin. The programme emphasizes inclusivity, encouraging applications from diverse backgrounds, particularly women in science.

Eligible applicants must be undergraduate students enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme in disciplines such as Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, Engineering, or related fields. A minimum of two years of full-time university study is required, along with proficiency in English. Applicants must provide an academic CV, proof of enrollment valid until August 2025, academic transcripts, a copy of their passport or ID, and a letter of reference. Non-EU students requiring a German work permit must also submit a Declaration of Certificate of Enrollment.
