Helmut Veith Stipend Scholarship 2026 Open
Vienna is more than waltzes and coffee houses—it is one of Europe’s quiet tech powerhouses, and TU Wien sits at its heart. Each year the university’s Vienna Center for Logic and Algorithms (VCLA) honours the legacy of the late Professor Helmut Veith—renowned for his trail-blazing work in logic, verification and computer security—by funding outstanding female master’s students through the Helmut Veith Stipend. The 2026 call is now open, and if you dream of diving deep into algorithms, AI foundations or formal methods on an English-taught master’s programme, this could be your ticket to Austria.
What the Helmut Veith Stipend Offers?
Winners receive an annual award of EUR 7,000 for up to two years—essentially a living-cost top-up—plus a full tuition-fee waiver at TU Wien. That combination lets you focus on research, not invoices, while enjoying Vienna’s enviable student lifestyle.
Who Can Apply?
Only female applicants are eligible, and you must secure (or be on track to secure) unconditional admission to one of TU Wien’s English-language master’s programmes:
- Logic and Computation
- Business Informatics
- Computer Engineering
- Data Science
- Media and Human-Centred Computing
- Software Engineering and Internet Computing
A bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics or an equivalent field is required, along with demonstrable strength—or at least keen interest—in one of Helmut Veith’s research areas (logic in CS, formal verification, AI foundations, algorithms & complexity, or computer security). Proficiency in English is compulsory; TOEFL or a university letter confirming prior English-medium study will suffice.
Study-Progress Expectations
The stipend is performance-based. Recipients must earn an average of 25 ECTS credits per semester and keep their grade average at or below 1.5 (on Austria’s 1 = best scale). You’re also expected to reside in Austria during teaching periods, though short research trips or internships can be approved.
How to Apply?
Applications are submitted exclusively through the TU Wien online job portal https://www.vcla.at/helmut-veith-stipend/. You will upload a cover letter, CV, motivation letter, transcripts, degree certificates (or provisional statement), two referee contacts, an English-language certificate, and a passport scan. Any document not in German or English must carry a certified translation. Importantly, you may lodge your stipend application before your admissions decision is final, but funding can only be confirmed once TU Wien admits you unconditionally.
Before hitting “submit”, double-check Austria’s residence-permit requirements so there are no surprises after you win.
The last date to apply for the Helmut Veith Stipend Scholarship is November 30 2025. Applications for financial assistance for the Helmut Veith Stipend Scholarship are also due by November 30 2025.
