Short-Term Research Scholarship in Germany Open for PhD Candidates

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is inviting doctoral candidates enrolled at Brazilian universities to apply for a unique co-funded research opportunity in Germany. This short-term program allows selected PhD students to conduct two 2 to six (06) months of research at a German university or non-university research institution — all while continuing to receive their domestic scholarship.

What’s This Opportunity About?

This program is designed for Brazilian PhD candidates who already hold a domestic scholarship from CAPES or one of the 23 participating FAPs. The research stay in Germany will be linked directly to your ongoing PhD project in Brazil, giving you access to new academic resources, labs, and networks abroad.

The DAAD will provide a monthly co-funding grant in addition to your Brazilian scholarship, ensuring your stay in Germany is financially viable. The length of funding is set according to the needs of your research plan and cannot be extended beyond the agreed period.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be a current PhD candidate at a Brazilian university.
  • Hold an active domestic scholarship from CAPES or one of the 23 participating FAPs.
  • Have a confirmed academic supervisor in Germany willing to host and guide your research.
  • Ensure that your research stay takes place between May 2026 and January 2027.

Coverage of Scholarship

  • Access to German academic and research facilities in your field.
  • Monthly co-funding grant from DAAD (on top of your CAPES/FAP scholarship).
  • International exposure that can enhance the quality and visibility of your PhD thesis.
  • Networking opportunities with German researchers, institutions, and peers.
