SUIPRES Scholarship for January 2026 Intake at Swansea University

If you’re an international student with a strong academic record and a passion for research, Swansea University is now giving you the chance to pursue a UK doctoral degree at domestic tuition rates. This new Swansea University International Postgraduate Research Excellence Scholarship (SUIPRES) is now open for applications for the January 2026 intake, and the competition is on.

Study a PhD in the UK While Paying Home Fees

Through SUIPRES, Swansea University waives the international tuition surcharge, allowing selected students to pay only the UK home fee—a major financial advantage. For 2025/26, this means paying just £5,006 per year, instead of the usual £20,000+ charged to overseas students. The fee is aligned with UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) rates and may increase annually by around 3%.

Please note, students must still demonstrate that they can cover the remaining UK fee and their living expenses for the full duration of their doctoral program.

Who Should Apply?

The SUIPRES Scholarship is available to international students applying for a PhD or Professional Doctorate programme at Swansea University. Here’s what’s required:

• A First-Class or 2:1 undergraduate degree (or equivalent), or a Distinction in a Master’s degree.
• You must be liable for international tuition fees.
• Your chosen program must be on the SUIPRES-eligible list (see link below).
• You are not already enrolled in a PhD or fully sponsored by a third party.

This scholarship is not available for Master’s-level courses.

How to Apply for SUIPRES?

1. Submit your application for an eligible PhD or Professional Doctorate.
2. Clearly indicate your interest in SUIPRES in your application form.
3. Provide a compelling supporting statement, outlining academic achievements, awards, teaching or research experience, and community or outreach contributions.
4. If successful, the scholarship will be confirmed in your formal offer letter.

Deadline for January 2026 Intake

Applications close on 15 October 2025 for the January 2026 entry round.

Future intakes include:
April 2026 start – Apply by 15 January 2026
July 2026 start – Apply by 15 April 2026
