The TWAS-SN Bose Postgraduate Fellowship Programme 2026 is now open for applications. Jointly offered by The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and the S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences (SNBNCBS) in Kolkata, India, this fellowship supports young foreign researchers who wish to pursue doctoral studies in physics, mathematics, and chemical sciences in a world-class research environment.
About the Fellowship
This prestigious fellowship offers a chance to work in cutting-edge interdisciplinary research labs at one of India’s leading national centers. Students can choose between two flexible paths:
- Full-time PhD enrolment at SNBNCBS
- Sandwich PhD option, where you remain enrolled in your home institution and complete part of your research in India.
The fellowship lasts up to 5 years, with 4 years of funding and a possible one-year extension.

Who Can Apply?
Eligible candidates must:
- Be under 35 years of age by 31 December 2025.
- Be a national of a developing country (excluding India).
- Hold an MSc or equivalent in a relevant field.
- Have completed at least 5 years of post-secondary study.
- Demonstrate English language proficiency.
- Have no temporary or permanent visa for India or any developed country.
- Submit a Preliminary Acceptance Letter from SNBNCBS.
- Commit to returning to their home country after completing the fellowship.

Application Deadlines
The TWAS-SN Bose Postgraduate Fellowship Programme 2026 will officially open for applications on 9 April 2025. Prospective applicants must request a Preliminary Acceptance Letter from the S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences no later than 16 August 2025, and the final date for the issuance of these acceptance letters by the Centre is 31 August 2025.
